Obviously people are entitled to their own opinions and there are many ways we can voice what we want. In this case, an Apple Store retail employee was fired for making some "bad comments" about the company. The comments were privately posted on facebook and brought to the attention of a manager. The situation is bad for everyone and i believe that no matter what people need to watch what they post and say on the internet. No matter how private one may think something is, there is always the possibility that someone can obtain your information.
If i were this employee i would be outraged that someone actually went through the trouble to tell on me for what i said, but at the same time, it is the internet and as a professional I'd need to be careful what I say. In this case I feel that if you are caught, you are caught and no matter the ethics of the other parties involved, the truth is in the words and you most face the consequences. On the other hand as an employer I would base my actions off of the extent of what was said about the company. As is stands Apple is a well respected company, upper level employees need to be alarmed if retail staff is bad-mouthing the company, but all in all it depends on the extent of the comments.
I think it does depend on the extent of the comment, if it wasn't that bad, then maybe a warning could have been sufficient. But I think by automatically firing the person, shows how serious Apple takes this, and will prevent future negativity.
ReplyDeleteI agree with Shelby's comment. I mean why would he post something negative about the company he works for anyway, let alone Apple, such a huge corporation? It needs devoted employees, not ones with hidden agendas
ReplyDeleteI agree that it is kind of ridiculous that a co-worker took time out of his or her day just to "tell on" the employee. Sounds like somebody needs a hobby!
ReplyDeleteI don't think it should depend on what is said because Apple clearly stated that negative comments about the company are prohibited. I would take it just as seriously if I was in charge of a company, especially a huge one such as Apple. There are plenty of people that need jobs in this economy that will follow the rules.
ReplyDeleteI would have also been outraged about the other employee going out of his way like that to tell on me.
ReplyDeleteThey must face the consequences also because they did not follow the simple guidelines of the company not to post any negative things on a social networking site of the company.
