In my opinion it is hard to put one label on America;s Education System. Much of the problems in the U.S. right now have a lot to do with economy and overspending. According the the 20/20 report above, experts agree that spending more money on education doesn't result in a better system. Structure in a big part of education. I believe that unified structure and better discipline is a large part of better education, though not all children are the same, social skills and life skills are built at a young age. Education requires freedom and encouragement, but all students need structure.

Teachers are not being selected wisely, according to this article above, all in all we are selecting k-12 teachers from the lower percentage of college grads. This is different from other higher educated countries who select teachers from the top percent of graduates.
There are definately a lot of factors that add to our failing education system, it is a scary thing to think about and should be changed as soon as possible.
Over spending definitely is a huge component when it comes to the downfall of the American economy..
ReplyDeleteTeachers could definitely be a problem in this, I recently read a book for a class where the teacher taught at an inner city school in Richmond and he said over half the kids in his class are going to end up dead or in jail and he didn't care. Shows how much some teachers care these days.
ReplyDeleteI agree that teachers are not as qualified as they should be. The "Dance of the Lemons" is an excellent example of the flaw in our education system. At the end of each year, principals send the "lemon" teachers to other schools. They cannot fire them because teachers are almost automatically granted tenure after just a few years of teaching.
ReplyDeletei agree teachers are a big issue, they are not concerned with students and us learning the material. They rush through problems and expect us to teach ourselves, it is absolutely ridiculous the way that some teachers teach. I had a teacher last year who could not even grade a test right, he gave me a 70% on a 50 point quiz and I checked it my self and had to show it to him again because I had actually gotten 100%. I enjoy learning in classes that teachers know what they are talking about and show a passion in teaching but very rarely do you have teachers like that anymore.
